About CytoTrack Red

CytoTrack Red from Bio-Rad passively crosses the cell membrane and is hydrolyzed causing it to become fluorescent and retained intracellularly. It then covalently crosslinks with primary amine-containing proteins inside the cell. With each daughter generation, as the cell divides, the intensity of the dye will become half of it's parent, indicating a symmetrical division of the cell and cytoplasm. CytoTrack Red has an excitation peak at 624 nm and an emission peak at 640 nm.
