IFN-alpha Monoclonal / Vio667 / REA1013
Product Details
Description | Type I interferons (IFNs), including IFN-alpha, are a family of cytokines that exert pleiotropic functions in the immune system. Besides its potent antiviral activity, IFN-alpha exerts a variety of immunomodulatory effects, including positive and negative regulation of its own production, regulation of IL-12 and IFN-gamma production, promotion of natural killer (NK) cell cytotoxicity, activation and maturation of dendritic cells, and the promotion of B cell development towards plasma cells. IFN-alpha is expressed predominantly by CD123+CD11c-CD303 (BDCA2)+ plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs). Clone REA1013 recognizes the majority of the IFN-alpha subtypes, including IFN-alpha2b. | Additional information: Clone REA1013 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors. | |

About IFN-alpha
This gene is a member of the alpha interferon gene cluster on chromosome 9. The encoded cytokine is a member of the type I interferon family that is produced in response to viral infection as a key part of the innate immune response with potent antiviral, antiproliferative and immunomodulatory properties. This cytokine, like other type I interferons, binds a plasma membrane receptor made of IFNAR1 and IFNAR2 that is ubiquitously expressed, and thus is able to act on virtually all body cells. This cytokine is upregulated in preeclamptic placentas and is thought to be a mediator of preeclampsia. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2020]
