Description | Clone REA886 recognizes the human CD68 antigen, a 110 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein classified as a lysosomal/endosomal–associated membrane glycoprotein (LAMP) family member. CD68 is highly expressed by human monocytes and tissue macrophages but also found in subpopulations of B cells, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and other cells. It is found predominantly in late endosomal and lysosomal compartments, with a modest level of cell surface expression. CD68 is suggested to be involved in phagocytic activities of tissue macrophages, in intracellular lysosomal metabolism, and extracellular cell-cell and cell-pathogen interactions. | Additional information: Clone REA886 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors. | |

About CD68
This gene encodes a 110-kD transmembrane glycoprotein that is highly expressed by human monocytes and tissue macrophages. It is a member of the lysosomal/endosomal-associated membrane glycoprotein (LAMP) family. The protein primarily localizes to lysosomes and endosomes with a smaller fraction circulating to the cell surface. It is a type I integral membrane protein with a heavily glycosylated extracellular domain and binds to tissue- and organ-specific lectins or selectins. The protein is also a member of the scavenger receptor family. Scavenger receptors typically function to clear cellular debris, promote phagocytosis, and mediate the recruitment and activation of macrophages. About PE-Vio770
PE-Vio® 770 from Miltenyi Biotec is a red-emitting tandem fluorophore that combines pycoerythrin (PE) and Vio®770. The donor molecule, PE can be excited by the 488-nm blue, 532-nm green, or 561-nm yellow-green laser and and transfers energy to the acceptor molecule, Vio®770, which emitts light that can be captured with a 780/60 nm bandpass filter. PE-Vio®770 has an excitation peak at 565 nm and an emission peak at 775 nm and is a common alternative to PE-Cy7 and PE-H7.
