About Calcein Violet AM
Calcein Violet is a blue fluorescent molecule that penetrates the membranes of dead cells and is used to evaluate cell membrane integrity as well as esterase activity. Closely related is Calcein Violet AM, which due to the acetoxymethyl (AM) modification, can passively diffuse across the membranes of live cells. While inside the live cell, Calcein Violet AM is hydrolyzed by esterase into the fluorescent Calcein Violet which can then be measured via Fluorescence Microscopy, flow cytometer, or fluorescent microplate reader. It has an excitation peak at 399 nm and an emission peak at 449 nm.
