CD49e Monoclonal / PE / HM alpha 5-1
Product Details
Description | Clone HMalpha5-1 recognizes the mouse and rat CD49e antigen, also known as integrin alpha-5, which is a protein belonging to the integrin alpha chain family. Integrins are cell-surface receptors, expressed as heterodimers essential in various processes mediating intercellular or cellmatrix interaction. Integrin alpha-5 is composed of a heavy and a light chain linked by a disulfide bond. CD49e associates non-covalently with the integrin beta-1 (CD29) forming the very late activation antigen-5 (VLA5) complex. It is expressed on different cell types including thymocytes, mast cells, activated T cells, and splenic B cells. | | | | | |

About CD49e
The product of this gene belongs to the integrin alpha chain family. Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of an alpha subunit and a beta subunit that function in cell surface adhesion and signaling. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate light and heavy chains that comprise the alpha 5 subunit. This subunit associates with the beta 1 subunit to form a fibronectin receptor. This integrin may promote tumor invasion, and higher expression of this gene may be correlated with shorter survival time in lung cancer patients. Note that the integrin alpha 5 and integrin alpha V subunits are encoded by distinct genes. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2015]

About PE
Phycoerythrin (PE, R-PE) is a red-emitting fluorescent protein-chromophore complex that can be excited the 488-nm blue, 532-nm green, or 561-nm yellow-green laser with increasing efficiency and captured with a 586/14 nm bandpass filter. PE has an excitation peak at 565 nm and an emission peak at 578 nm. PE is 240kD in size and has an extinction coefficient of ~2x10^6 which makes it one of the brightest fluorophores available and a potent donor upon which to build tandem fluorophores with longer Stoke's Shifts.
