FGF-16 / Biotin /

Product Details
Description Fibroblast growth factor 16 (FGF16) is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. FGF16 has been reported as the sixteenth member of the heparin sulphate proteoglycan binding growth factor family, which includes acidic and basic FGFs (FGF-1 and FGF-2), based on sequence similarity.1 FGF-16 is most similar to FGF-9. FGF-16 is released from neonatal cardiac myocytes and alters growth-related signaling, possibly interfering with cardiac myocyte proliferative potential.2

About FGF-16
This gene encodes a member of a family of proteins that are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. This gene is expressed in cardiac cells and is required for proper heart development. Mutation in this gene was also observed in individuals with metacarpal 4-5 fusion. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2014]
