CD61 Monoclonal / FITC / 2C9.G2 (HMbeta3-1)

Product Details
Description Clone 2C9.G2 (HMbeta3-1) recognizes a 110 kDa integrin beta chain known as CD61 or Integrin beta3. Owing to multiple alpha/beta subunit combinations, integrins form an array of heterodimeric receptors, each recognising a multitude of ligands. CD61, in association with either alphav (CD51) or alphaIIb (CD41) integrin, binds to fibrinogen, fibronectin, von Willebrand factor, prothrombin, disintegrins and thrombospondin. Due to binding to various extracellular matrix proteins and cellular receptors, integrins play a significant role in cell adhesion and cell movement. Furthermore, a pro-apoptotic function of CD61 has been suggested using a hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell line and patient tissues. Expression of CD61 is found on platelets, B cell subsets, myeloid cells, mast cells, osteoclasts, endothelium, megakaryocytes, and smooth muscle cells.

About CD61
The ITGB3 protein product is the integrin beta chain beta 3. Integrins are integral cell-surface proteins composed of an alpha chain and a beta chain. A given chain may combine with multiple partners resulting in different integrins. Integrin beta 3 is found along with the alpha IIb chain in platelets. Integrins are known to participate in cell adhesion as well as cell-surface mediated signalling. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
About FITC
Fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) has an excitation peak at 495 nm and an emission peak at 519 nm. The name FITC is a misnomer in that the isothiocyanate is a reactive form of this dye. Once FITC is conjugated to an antibody, it is simply Fluorescein conjugated. FITC is one of the most widely used dyes for fluorescent applications, therefore most instruments come standard with a 488 nm laser and FITC filter set up. FITC is commonly conjugated to secondary antibodies and used in applications such as flow cytometry, immunocytochemistry, and immunohistochemistry. FITC is relatively dim, sensitive to photobleaching and it is susceptible to changes is pH. There are better performing alternatives to FITC, like Vio®Bright 515, Alexa Fluor™ 488, iFluor® 488, CF®488A and DY-488. FITC is a long-time generic dye with no sole manufacturer or trademark.
