CD230 Monoclonal / APC / REA203

Product Details
Description Clone REA203 recognizes CD230, commonly known as the prion protein (PrP). The normal cellular PrP (PrPc) is a ubiquitously expressed glycosylphosphatidyl-inositol (GPI) anchored protein. Though the main function of PrPc remains unknown, it has been suggested that PrPc may play a role in copper regulation, antioxidant activity, intracellular signaling. PrPsc is the conformational isoform of PrPc with similar primary sequence but different tertiary structure and is associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans, bovine spongiform encephalopathy, and scrapie in sheeps. PrPsc is suggested to derive from PrPc in a posttranslational process which involves PrPc-PrPsc molecular interactions. | Additional information: Clone REA203 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors. |

About CD230
The protein encoded by this gene is a membrane glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored glycoprotein that tends to aggregate into rod-like structures. The encoded protein contains a highly unstable region of five tandem octapeptide repeats. This gene is found on chromosome 20, approximately 20 kbp upstream of a gene which encodes a biochemically and structurally similar protein to the one encoded by this gene. Mutations in the repeat region as well as elsewhere in this gene have been associated with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, fatal familial insomnia, Gerstmann-Straussler disease, Huntington disease-like 1, and kuru. An overlapping open reading frame has been found for this gene that encodes a smaller, structurally unrelated protein, AltPrp. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. About APC
Allophycocyanin (APC) is a fluorescent protein derived from cyanobacteria and red algae and a potent donor fluorophore to create tandem dyes that can be excited off the 633-640 nm laser. APC has an excitation peak at 650 nm and a emission peak at 660 nm.
