SLUG Monoclonal / PE / REA404

Product Details
Description Clone REA404 recognizes the human slug antigen, a zinc finger transcriptional repressor also known as SNAI2. Slug is an inducer of the epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) which is a highly conserved developmental program activated during mesoderm formation and neural crest development. This program also promotes dissemination of single malignant cells from primary epithelial tumors. During EMT, cells discard their epithelial characteristics, including cell adhesion and polarity, reorganize their cytoskeleton and acquire a mesenchymal morphology and the ability to migrate. One of the hallmarks of EMT is the functional loss of the cell-cell junction protein E-cadherin. Several transcription factors including slug have been identified to repress E-cadherin expression, which plays important roles in cell adhesion and in the maintenance of tissue structure. These EMT transcription factors bind to E-box elements in the promoter region of E-cadherin leading to transcriptional repression of junctional complexes and induction of the mesenchymal phenotype. | Additional information: Clone REA404 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors.

About SLUG
This gene encodes a member of the Snail family of C2H2-type zinc finger transcription factors. The encoded protein acts as a transcriptional repressor that binds to E-box motifs and is also likely to repress E-cadherin transcription in breast carcinoma. This protein is involved in epithelial-mesenchymal transitions and has antiapoptotic activity. Mutations in this gene may be associated with sporatic cases of neural tube defects. About PE
Phycoerythrin (PE, R-PE) is a red-emitting fluorescent protein-chromophore complex that can be excited the 488-nm blue, 532-nm green, or 561-nm yellow-green laser with increasing efficiency and captured with a 586/14 nm bandpass filter. PE has an excitation peak at 565 nm and an emission peak at 578 nm. PE is 240kD in size and has an extinction coefficient of ~2x10^6 which makes it one of the brightest fluorophores available and a potent donor upon which to build tandem fluorophores with longer Stoke's Shifts.
