Survivin Monoclonal / APC / REA459

Product Details
Description Clone REA459 recognizes the human survivin antigen, a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) family. Survivin is also known as baculoviral IAP repeat-containing protein 5 (BIRC5) or apoptosis inhibitor 4 (API4). The survivin protein inhibits caspase activation, thereby leading to negative regulation of apoptosis or programmed cell death. Expression of survivin is highly regulated by the cell cycle and is only expressed in the G2-M phase. Survivin localizes to the mitotic spindle by interaction with tubulin during mitosis and may play a contributing role in regulating mitosis. It is expressed highly in most human tumors and fetal tissue, but is completely absent in terminally differentiated cells. Its overexpression has been demonstrated in breast and lung cancer, prostate, gastric, colon, bladder and esophageal carcinomas, osteosarcomas, and lymphomas. Overexpression of survivin was also found to be significantly associated with a poor prognosis and decreased survival rates in oral, breast, and colorectal cancers. | Additional information: Clone REA459 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors.

About Survivin
This gene is a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) gene family, which encode negative regulatory proteins that prevent apoptotic cell death. IAP family members usually contain multiple baculovirus IAP repeat (BIR) domains, but this gene encodes proteins with only a single BIR domain. The encoded proteins also lack a C-terminus RING finger domain. Gene expression is high during fetal development and in most tumors, yet low in adult tissues. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2011]
About APC
Allophycocyanin (APC) is a fluorescent protein derived from cyanobacteria and red algae and a potent donor fluorophore to create tandem dyes that can be excited off the 633-640 nm laser. APC has an excitation peak at 650 nm and a emission peak at 660 nm.
