Description | Clone REA258 recognizes CD177, which is also known as neutrophil specific antigen 1. CD177, a member of the µPAR family, is a 58–64 kDa glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored glycoprotein expressed exclusively by subset of neutrophils, neutrophilic metamyelocytes, and myelocytes and is suggested to play a role in neutrophil mediated immune reponse as evident by its up-regulation on neutrophils in a number of inflammatory settings such as bacterial infection. Furthermore, CD177 can directly bind to PECAM-1 allowing neutrophil-endothelial cell interactions and thus contributing to neutrophil transmigration. Overexpression of CD177 is also seen in patients with polycythemia vera, making it a useful diagnostic marker. | Additional information: Clone REA258 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors. | |

About CD177
This gene encodes a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (GPI)-linked cell surface glycoprotein that plays a role in neutrophil activation. The protein can bind platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 and function in neutrophil transmigration. Mutations in this gene are associated with myeloproliferative diseases. Over-expression of this gene has been found in patients with polycythemia rubra vera. Autoantibodies against the protein may result in pulmonary transfusion reactions, and it may be involved in Wegener's granulomatosis. A related pseudogene, which is adjacent to this gene on chromosome 19, has been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2014]

About PE
Phycoerythrin (PE, R-PE) is a red-emitting fluorescent protein-chromophore complex that can be excited the 488-nm blue, 532-nm green, or 561-nm yellow-green laser with increasing efficiency and captured with a 586/14 nm bandpass filter. PE has an excitation peak at 565 nm and an emission peak at 578 nm. PE is 240kD in size and has an extinction coefficient of ~2x10^6 which makes it one of the brightest fluorophores available and a potent donor upon which to build tandem fluorophores with longer Stoke's Shifts.
