The protein encoded by this gene is a receptor for monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, a chemokine which specifically mediates monocyte chemotaxis. Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 is involved in monocyte infiltration in inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis as well as in the inflammatory response against tumors. The encoded protein mediates agonist-dependent calcium mobilization and inhibition of adenylyl cyclase. This protein can also be a coreceptor with CD4 for HIV-1 infection. PE-Cyanine®7 (PE-Cy7, RPE-Cy7) is a far red-emitting tandem fluorophore that combines phycoerythrin (PE) and Cy7. The donor molecule, PE can be excited by the 488-nm blue, 532-nm green, or 561-nm yellow-green laser and and transfers energy to the acceptor molecule, Cy7, which emitts light that can be captured with a 780/60 nm bandpass filter. PE-CY7 has an excitation peak at 565 nm and an emission peak at 778 nm, and is a suitable alternative to PE-Vio®770 and PE-Fire™ 780.
