Description Importins transport molecules into the nucleus via nuclear localization sequences binding. There are over 20 human importins identified, divided in the alpha and beta subfamilies. Importin-9 is a beta importin, responsible for the import of the core histones H2A, H2B, H3 and H4 into the nucleus.
