GFAP / Unconjugated / SPM248

Product Details
Description Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein is specifically found in astroglia, making it a very popular marker for localizing benign astrocyte and neoplastic cells of glial origin in the central nervous system. Ab to GFAP is useful in differentiating primary gliomas from metastatic lesions in the brain and for documenting astrocytic differentiation in tumors outside the CNS.

About GFAP
This gene encodes one of the major intermediate filament proteins of mature astrocytes. It is used as a marker to distinguish astrocytes from other glial cells during development. Mutations in this gene cause Alexander disease, a rare disorder of astrocytes in the central nervous system. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
