CD6 / Unconjugated / 3F7B5

Product Details
Description CD6 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein that contains a 24-amino acid signal sequence, three extracellular scavenger receptor cysteine-rich (SRCR) domains, a membrane-spanning domain and a 44-amino acid cytoplasmic domain. The glycoprotein is tyrosine phosphorylated during TCR-mediated T cell activation. It shows significant homology to CD5. CD6 is present on mature thymocytes, peripheral T cells and a subset of B cells. CD6 antibody can be used to deplete T cells from bone marrow transplants to prevent graft versus host disease.

About CD6
This gene encodes a protein found on the outer membrane of T-lymphocytes as well as some other immune cells. The encoded protein contains three scavenger receptor cysteine-rich (SRCR) domains and a binding site for an activated leukocyte cell adhesion molecule. The gene product is important for continuation of T cell activation. This gene may be associated with susceptibility to multiple sclerosis (PMID: 19525953, 21849685). Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011]
