Ceruloplasmin / Unconjugated /

Product Details
Description Precipitating polyclonal rabbit antiserum to human alpha-2 ceruloplasmin. Alpha-2 ceruloplasmin is copper containing alpha-2 glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 160,000. Its mean concentration in plasma of adults is 32 mg/100ml. Elevated levels are observed in pregnant women, in patients with infectious diseases and the nephritic syndrome. More than 90% of the plasma copper is bound to this protein. Ceruloplasmin is isolated from pooled human serum by sequential precipitation and purified by ion exchange chromatography and affinity chromatography. Freund's complete adjuvant is used in the first step of the immunization procedure.

About Ceruloplasmin
The protein encoded by this gene is a metalloprotein that binds most of the copper in plasma and is involved in the peroxidation of Fe(II)transferrin to Fe(III) transferrin. Mutations in this gene cause aceruloplasminemia, which results in iron accumulation and tissue damage, and is associated with diabetes and neurologic abnormalities. Two transcript variants, one protein-coding and the other not protein-coding, have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2012]
