| Description | NB100-63072 recognizes the human CD178 cell surface antigen, a 40kDa glycoprotein also known as Fas ligand (CD95L). CD178 is a member of the TNF family, which is expressed by activated T lymphocytes and NK cells. The protein may exist as either a membrane bound or a cleaved soluble form. CD178 plays an important role in T cell development cytotoxicity. Binding of CD178 to Fas (CD95) results in the induction of apoptosis. Clone 14C2 is not reported to have a blocking function. | |

About CD178
This gene is a member of the tumor necrosis factor superfamily. The primary function of the encoded transmembrane protein is the induction of apoptosis triggered by binding to FAS. The FAS/FASLG signaling pathway is essential for immune system regulation, including activation-induced cell death (AICD) of T cells and cytotoxic T lymphocyte induced cell death. It has also been implicated in the progression of several cancers. Defects in this gene may be related to some cases of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Peridinin-Chlorophyll-Protein (PerCP) is a red-emitting fluorescent protein isolated from algae that can be excited by the 488 nm blue laser and captured with a 670/30 nm bandpass filter. PerCP exhibits a large Stokes' Shift, with an excitation peak at 482 nm and an emission peak at 675 nm. PerCP is was historically used in flow cytometry, however it is highly susceptible to photobleaching and has poor stability. Alternatives like BB700, NovaFluor Blue 690 or PerCP-eFluor™ 710 are preferred. PerCP is a generic dye that has no sole manufacturer.
