This gene encodes a divergent member of the CD1 family of transmembrane glycoproteins, which are structurally related to the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) proteins and form heterodimers with beta-2-microglobulin. The CD1 proteins mediate the presentation of primarily lipid and glycolipid antigens of self or microbial origin to T cells. The human genome contains five CD1 family genes organized in a cluster on chromosome 1. The CD1 family members are thought to differ in their cellular localization and specificity for particular lipid ligands. The protein encoded by this gene localizes to late endosomes and lysosomes via a tyrosine-based motif in the cytoplasmic tail. PE-Dazzle® 594 (RPE-Dazzle 594) from Biolegend is a red-emitting tandem fluorophore that combines pycoerythrin (PE) and Dazzle 594. The donor molecule, PE can be excited by the 488-nm blue, 532-nm green, or 561-nm yellow-green laser and and transfers energy to the acceptor molecule, Dazzle 594, which emitts light that can be captured with a 610/20 nm bandpass filter. PE-Dazzle 594 has an excitation peak at 565 nm and an emission peak at 610 nm, and is suitable alternative to PE-Texas Red, PE-eF610, PE-Alexa Fluor™ 610 or PE-CF®594.
