About CellTrace Blue
CellTrace® Blue Cell Proliferation Kit is used for in vitro and in vivo labeling of cells to trace multiple generations using dye dilution by flow cytometry. The CellTrace Blue reagent is specifically designed for excitation by a UV laser (at 355 nm or 375 nm) and it can be easily multiplexed with reagents and antibodies excited by other commonly used lasers. This reagent passively crosses the cell membrane and is hydrolyzed causing it to become fluorescent and retained intracellularly. It then covalently crosslinks with primary amine-containing proteins inside the cell. With each daughter generation, as the cell divides, the intensity of the dye will become half of it's parent, indicating a symmetrical division of the cell and cytoplasm.
