ACKR1 / APC / REA376
Product Details
Description | Clone REA376 recognizes the human CD234 antigen, a multi-pass membrane protein also known as duffy antigen receptor for chemokines (DARC) or Fy glycoprotein (FY). CD234 is responsible for the duffy blood group system and belongs to a family of silent seven-transmembrane spanning receptors, which do not couple to G-proteins and therefore do not transmit intracellular signals like other G-protein–coupled chemokine-receptors leading to integrin activation or cell motility. It binds to a broad range of inflammatory chemokines of both the CC and the CXC chemokine families, but does not interact with homeostatic chemokines. CD234 is expressed on erythrocytes, cerebellar neurons on postcapillary venule, and capillary endothelial cells in a number of peripheral organs including lymph nodes, the lung, and the kidney. In these organs, endothelial CD234 is specifically expressed in the vascular segment involved in leucocyte extravasation. CD234 was shown to mediate chemokine transcytosis from the basolateral to the luminal side of the endothelium, where the chemokines remain immobilized on the tips of endothelial apical microvilli and enhance leucocyte trafficking in vivo. | Additional information: Clone REA376 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors. | |

About ACKR1
The protein encoded by this gene is a glycosylated membrane protein and a non-specific receptor for several chemokines. The encoded protein is the receptor for the human malarial parasites Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium knowlesi. Polymorphisms in this gene are the basis of the Duffy blood group system. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

About APC
Allophycocyanin (APC) is a fluorescent protein derived from cyanobacteria and red algae and a potent donor fluorophore to create tandem dyes that can be excited off the 633-640 nm laser. APC has an excitation peak at 650 nm and a emission peak at 660 nm.
