Bcl-2 / PE / REA356
Product Details
Description | Clone REA356 recognizes the mouse Bcl-2 antigen, a 26 kDa intracellular single-pass membrane protein found primarily in the mitochondrion outer membrane, the nucleus membrane, and the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. Bcl-2 is the founding member of the Bcl-2 family of regulator proteins and it forms homodimers or heterodimers with other Bcl-2 family members. It suppresses apoptosis in a variety of cell systems including factor-dependent lymphohematopoietic and neural cells. Bcl-2 regulates cell death by controlling the mitochondrial membrane permeability and it appears to function in a feedback loop system with caspases. Caspase activity is either inhibited by preventing the release of cytochrome c from the mitochondria and/or by binding to the apoptosis-activating factor. | Additional information: Clone REA356 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors. | |

About Bcl-2
This gene encodes an integral outer mitochondrial membrane protein that blocks the apoptotic death of some cells such as lymphocytes. Constitutive expression of BCL2, such as in the case of translocation of BCL2 to Ig heavy chain locus, is thought to be the cause of follicular lymphoma. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2016]

About PE
Phycoerythrin (PE, R-PE) is a red-emitting fluorescent protein-chromophore complex that can be excited the 488-nm blue, 532-nm green, or 561-nm yellow-green laser with increasing efficiency and captured with a 586/14 nm bandpass filter. PE has an excitation peak at 565 nm and an emission peak at 578 nm. PE is 240kD in size and has an extinction coefficient of ~2x10^6 which makes it one of the brightest fluorophores available and a potent donor upon which to build tandem fluorophores with longer Stoke's Shifts.
