Lp-PLA2 / Unconjugated /

Product Details
Description LP-PLA2 is an enzyme which circulates in the blood, and attaches to LDL cholesterol particles in the bloodstream. These particles can adhere to the arterial walls, where oxidation takes place which promotes the build-up of plaque in the arteries. Lp-PLA2 is considered currently considered a risk marker for cardiovascular disease and is measured through a simple blood test using ELISA.

About Lp-PLA2
The protein encoded by this gene is a secreted enzyme that catalyzes the degradation of platelet-activating factor to biologically inactive products. Defects in this gene are a cause of platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase deficiency. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Dec 2009]
