HMGN1 / Unconjugated /
Product Details
Description | HMGN1 binds to the inner side of the nucleosomal DNA thus altering the interaction between the DNA and the histone octamer. HMGN1 has been shown to enhance transcription on chromatin templates but not on DNA templates suggesting that the association of HMGN1 with nucleosomes is part of the cellular process involved in the generation of transcriptionally active chromatin. During mitosis HMGN1 is phosphorylated in its chromatin binding domain. | |

About HMGN1
The protein encoded by this gene binds nucleosomal DNA and is associated with transcriptionally active chromatin. Along with a similar protein, HMG17, the encoded protein may help maintain an open chromatin configuration around transcribable genes. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2011]
