Fura Red, AM is an intracellular calcium indicator. When Fura Red is hydrolyzed intracellularly and binds cytoplasmic Ca2+, the excitation efficiency of the probe at 405 and 488nm decreases which diminishes the emission of the probe at ~660nm. It is commonly used with Fluo-4, AM which exhibits increased intensity when bound to ratiometrically assess calcium concentration at 488nm excitation.
